Volunteer Opportunities for the Colorado Volunteer Center Network (CVCN)

 

1. The VCS General Ops Team (GOT)

The Position: General Ops Team Member

The role of the General Ops Team (GOT) is to effectively and efficiently manage the Volunteer Coordination System (VCS) on behalf of the Colorado Volunteer Center Network (CVCN). A volunteer position on the GOT combines volunteering with leadership to oversee and maintain the VCS Toolbox. The Toolbox is the name given for the collection of documents, electronic forms, system tools and equipment used to maintain and operate the VCS.

The GOT includes a Team Director and is designed to include leads of specific work-groups for: Outreach, Resources, Toolbox, and Training & Exercise. The use of these positions is flexible based on the skills and desires of the collective team.

Responsibilities

Some of the key duties performed in each position include:

Team Director:

- Organize and facilitate team meetings

- Co-develop and oversee Action Plans based on Disaster Prepaedness Program VCS objectives

Outreach Lead:  

-Develop and manage VCS relationships with affiliated agencies

-Monitor MOUs

Resources Lead:

-Develop and submit grant proposals

-Develop training materials as needed

-Coordinate and assist with recruiting members for the GOT and RRTs

Toolbox Lead: 

- Maintain and generate updates to the VCS Toolbox

-Coordinate, support and provide orientation of GOT and RRTs

Training & Exercise Lead:

-Organize and facilitate workgroup meetings, VCS orientations, training’s and exercises.

Work Location

Interested volunteers will be based at the nearest volunteer center according to the volunteer’s proximity and travel capabilities. For a list of our current volunteer center’s locations please see the “Volunteer Centers” section of the website, cvcnetwork.org.

 Qualifications

Previous volunteer experience is preferred. For any Workgroup Lead positions, previous leadership experience is required. Volunteers are expected to maintain a professional, team-based attitude at all times.

 Commitment Expected

Depending on the functional ability of the team, volunteers may be expected to commit anywhere between 5 and 10 hours a month. Volunteers must have the ability to attend various affiliated group meetings, trainings or exercises in person, by conference call or by webinar.

2. VCS Rapid Response Team (RRT)

The Position: Rapid Response Team Member

The Rapid Response Team is a concept modeled after the Incident Command System (ICS) Incident Management Team (IMT) structure and is a designated team of trained personnel activated to support incident management at incidents going beyond one operational period.

Responsibilities

The RRT will provide CVCN with trained individuals who can work together as a team to operationally manage the VCS and its functions during periods of activation.

During activation, the RRT operates the Volunteer Coordination System (VCS) and components (VCS Toolbox) at one of the three levels of VCS response.

Ÿ Level III Response: Provides VCS technical assistance (remotely) to requesting disaster response entity for the management of a spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteers (SUV) surge.

Ÿ Level II Response: Provides VCS technical assistance (on site or remotely) and personnel to requesting disaster response entity for the management of a SUV surge.

Ÿ Level I Response: Standing up of a physical Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) with the RRT serving as VRC Command Management personnel, activating VRC (reserve) Staff positions, recruiting and providing SUV processing training to requesting disaster response entity for the management of a SUV surge.

The RRT is the core Command Staff of the VCS and includes a VCS/ VRC Director and the following three officers: VCS/VRC Support, Planning, and ICS &EOC Integration.

Work Locations

Volunteers on the RRT must live in the state of Colorado. RRT members are expected to be able to respond to the scene of specific disasters throughout the state. For trainings, volunteers will be based at the nearest volunteer center according to their proximity and travel capabilities. Qualifications

Experience with disaster response efforts or volunteer management is preferred. Volunteers must be physically and mentally capable to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment.

 Commitment Expected

Volunteers are asked to commit to a volunteer position on the RRT for at least one year.
